I could tolerate the non-stop profanity if there was a point to the story, but there was not.

Um
Was liking the story till it got to all the n words. Once I read like two within a paragraph I checked out. I just don't think this one was my style.

What a story.
To me, this is terror, not horror, and all the more frightening.
I command the author on an impressive first person narration. The character grew more believable, a feat in such a short tale.
A short story with a fitting (straightjacket-ingly so) ending.

This pushed all my buttons in the woooorst way. It was a fantastic read. The idea of a doppelganger committing crimes and tangling you up in them is intense and terrifying, the sense of helplessness enough to make me shiver. I haven’t read the Poe story that this is based on, but between this and an anthology of Poe retellings that I’ve read before I think I need to start reading Poe because I’ve always enjoyed them. I liked the contemporary setting, and the way that this story pulled racial profiling and racial inequality into this retelling. It gave it a hell of a punch and left me feeling spooked and sad.

A really fantastic short story- sort of mind bendy. I was questioning what was going on the whole time, and the ending, IIRC, was really powerful. The audio was perfect.

I feel like I might've liked this better if I'd known the original...
