a star was docked because despite my undying love for this series,
i cannot understand why kyoko had to be in fucking middle school when she married the grown katsuya. i feel like kyoko's story absolutely would've had the same meaning and emotion if she had met katsuya when she was an adult or if they just didn't have an age gap like wtf. he's such a predator and it's really uncomfortable to read because kyoko was so so vulnerable and she was also a CHILD. seriously natsuki what were you thinking. and it's the way that she kept this on with arisa and kureno, just make the age gaps just one or two years if you really want to. these pedophilic relationships are so weird and there is never a situation in which it is necessary to a plot or should be romaticized. it sucks cuz i truly love fruits basket so fucking much but this plot line really taints it.

kyo and tohru in this volume tho *chef's kiss* they are so meant for each other, i genuinely want my own kyo rn

We get the backstory on Tohru's parents in this one, and it's so sad! Yes, there is quite an age difference between her mom and dad, but it still works for the most part. There are just tragic backstories all around in this series.

The Cinderella-ish play was also a lot of fun! Helped to balance out some of the darker stuff in this volume. And there was a lot of darker stuff in this volume. You definitely need some of that fun stuff to balance out all the trauma that's happened to these characters.
