New favorite !! Bachman is such a unique story teller. From what I’d heard you’ll either love or hate the writing style but lucky for me, I loved it. Will definitely be reading more by him!

Backman is incredibly good at being simultaneously heartfelt and serious and hilariously silly. This story of several people caught in a hostage situation after a bank robbery goes awry is really touching and often had me laughing out loud (something that has been common with all of Backman's books that I've read). Definitely recommended. (And see? I _do_ occasionally read something that isn't sci-fi!)

10/5 stars!
This book is MAGNIFICENT, BRILLIANT!! What a story! What imagination! What funny sense of humour! There are parts that made me laugh out like a lunatic. I LOVED everything about it. Loved all the characters! They all had their own weirdness, anxieties and idiosyncrasies. I adored the relationship between the father cop and his son cop. They were so cute together!
The story covered anxiety, depression and suicidal issues in a delicate and transparent manner that makes you stop and think about how complicated all our personalities are. That each one of us passed through experiences and daily events that somehow shape who we are now. That’s it’s never too late to forgive yourself and start over. It’s never too late for anything!
Moreover it talked about parenthood and how far parents can go to protect their little ones.
It somehow reminded me of big little lies in the way both authors talk about serious topics in a dark comedy and light hearted ways that make you stop and contemplate everything.
The audiobook made this book even better! Marin Ireland is a brilliant and hilarious narrator!♥️
This is by far the best book I’ve read in 2020!
Absolutely recommended!!
