Ich musste so viel lachen und weinen, während ich dem Hörbuch zugehört habe. Ich werde definitiv noch andere Bücher dieses Autors anschauen

First, I think I should clarify the subject matter, since I didn't realize what I was getting into when I read the blurb on the back--the book is centered around a man whose primary desire is to
commit suicide.
I wouldn't consider it a spoiler since it's brought up very early on. Although this is ultimately an uplifting book at its core, there are a lot of tough subjects handled. A prospective reader should definitely check the content warnings if there is any subject that you have trouble reading about.

That being said, the book was very humorous. It transitioned smoothly from some of the darkest moments into some of the funniest. I did actually laugh at some parts.

For most of the book, chapters alternate between Ove's present-day life and the story about his past. I was most engaged in the past chapters, since a lot more happened in them and they explained how Ove came to be how he is (the connections between past and present were one of my favorite parts about the book, by the way).

I was a bit bored by the present chapters at first since they weren't that exciting (for lack of a better word) and I was irritated at how Ove insisted on being grumpy and arguing with everybody over every little thing. I actually had tried to read this book two times previously, but gave up because I lost interest early on. However, I made it through this time, and everything came together very well in the end. I think I was the most engaged with this book in the last few chapters.

The characters were fairly diverse, but they are not hugely developed aside from Ove. I think that's fine, since this book deals with how Ove sees the world and the people around him. It makes sense that he has the most development. The other characters were pretty likable, anyway.

Overall I would say that this book is very worth reading if you're in the proper mood for dealing with tough subject matter, crying a little and finishing the book with a smile in the end.
