straight-forward, spartan, interwoven history of finland from the first human inhabitants to the present day. there isn't a chance to go in depth on anything but the author weaves together many facets of life to show a broad and continuously influenced picture of the history of finland. i can could still find many current-day influences at play even with this broad and superficial treatment, and it gave me a few areas of interest of time periods to read further about. to be sure the storytelling aspect was lacking, it was rather dry. but the language wasn't bogged down with decadence. i could read it very quickly.

I certainly learnt a lot but felt that the author glossed over many interesting details + some of the sentences were oddly constructed (which might be the fault of the translation).
