How can a book be hopeful and heartbreaking all at once?

I went to this book directly after reading the second book so everything was fresh in my mind. I missed seeing the brothers with Tessa immediately. The separate POVs made me miss them. I think we spent some boring time with Harristan, it was a bit stagnant which made me leave the book for a while but after the 60%-ish mark , I liked the book again and became more interested.

I really liked the development in the relationship between Corrick and Lochlan. On the other side, I felt the same with Tessa and Eric as well. Also, I really appreciated how complicated Ryan's character was and that he wasn't even the same as Harriston in his methods. I liked the flaws here even if I didn't like what he's doing. I liked to see how Tessa and Corrick saw and worked around this flaw with/through him for the larger picture.

I didn't expect to become emotional and near tears in the end about the brothers but as I mentioned I really grew attached to them . The ending of the series was solid in my opinion and I am glad I read the series.

Really nice conclusion to a fun adventure.
Annoyed by the "killed a main character but not really" part, but it is a YA book I suppose.
Overall felt like this series had a bit more meat than I would expect from YA. Lots of work around people growing their understanding as they're exposed to more information, which I think is incredibly valuable for anyone.

2.75 ✨ Not my most hated, not my most loved. I think I was tired of the writing style after binging these series (how many times do you have to tell in the exact same way that Corric was only hurting people because he had no other choice??). Just like the twist at the beginning of the series she got me at the end with this one. Very Shadow and Bone-esque that Harriston and Quint got to live their lives out in a cottage.

I love this book and how it was written. I HATE how this audiobook was done.
None of the voice actors can give characters the same voice. According to corrick, quint is British; according to Harriston he’s got a super deep northern American voice. According to some, it’s Car-ee; some it’s Care-ee. We need our narrators to please get together and make it work. Also harriston’s narrator had one of the worst lisps I’ve ever heard and it really was distracting and irritating. Couldn’t focus on the plot a lot of the time during his moments. Couldn’t understand the words from time to time - i did a lot of rewinding.

The book was a bit slow in the first half/middle because I didn‘t really care for tessa‘s POV because she was still kinda annoying and didn‘t do much. But I still loved Corrick so at least I was always looking forward to his POVs. But all in all I really liked the story and the characters (except for tessa).
