Sittenfeld does a great job of evoking Hillary's voice, her quietly wry humor, and a sense of her as a real, live person, rather than the caricature she has become to both right and left. The book is both a thought experiment - a "what if she had chosen another path" tale - and a behind-the-scenes look at the dilemmas and moral quandaries of the modern world, both political and personal. All of this is well and believably laid out in Sittenfeld's prose, which like her subject, is no-nonsense.

It’s hard to believe this is a work of fiction as it reads like a highly believable biography. Well told with strong writing even though I didn’t know much about American politics - I enjoyed it!

What a cool alternate history and the author did a great job capturing her voice. I do think the first section when she and Bill were together was the most captivating because it felt like a realistic view of their relationship and the tension she likely actually felt. Although I did enjoy the later sections that split from reality too, that first part was very interesting!

This alternate history diverged from reality further into the book than I am used to and I am going to spend a significant time cross-checking some things from the first quarter to reality to see if I just missed some. After the main, drastic divergence, there were some interesting smaller changes and parallels - which are my favorite parts of alternate history. They were well done and fascinating. I felt like the voice of Hillary was well envisions, though it was much more familiars form the more political voice of her actual writing. I enjoyed the journey, but felt a bit sad for this imagined Hillary during much of the book - it felt realistic but sad.

I liked how this one turned out better than real life.

I expected this book to be a cathartic piece of fiction drawn around characters I was already familiar with. Did it have good parts? Sure. But ultimately I found it to be boring and disappointing, and it took me months to get through it because I just never wanted to pick it back up.
