I’m so frustrated with this book! I’m not going to spend long on this review because I spent long enough reading it and am on a rage especially after that ending because what the heck was that coming out of nowhere?! The beginning dropped the reader right into the story and I was so excited. The pacing was seeming great, the plot had tons of potential, I thought I could see where it was going. Red Rising conspiracy vibes all the way and I was *here* for it! The pacing changed pretty quick and the world building was just taking a little while but no - holding on tight - any minute, any minute….no the story just went off the deep end with unbelievable (not in the good way) storylines, zero depth to the relationships, random dialogue and info trauma dumps out of nowhere to try to build character development, and a frustrating as hell ending. So so sad more than anything that it had so much dang potential and went nowhere with it.

I thought the plot and characters were under developed. It felt rushed. Also if I took a drink every time there was a cliche phrase (his jaw ticked, she held her breath) I would be very very drunk.

I just couldn't get into the writing. Maybe it's the wrong time for this book for me. I think I need something more flowing.

Okay, maybe this just wasn’t fair to the book, but Sunrise on the Reaping absolutely wrecked me, and now I’m in the worst reading slump ever. I think if I had read this at a different time, I might have loved it more. The premise? So good. The writing? Solid. I liked it, I really did! But I just wasn’t as engaged as I wanted to be. I wanted this to be a 5-star read, but it just wasn’t hitting the way I hoped. Still, I think I’ll pick up the second one later this year because there’s definitely something here, and I need to know where the story goes.
