Khalani and Takeshi

omg I should’ve read this months ago when I added it to my TBR!

This was such a unique setting and world to dive into and I’m anxious to see where this story goes!

I need Khalani and Takeshi to stop being stubborn and just get together already!!

it’s written in 3rd person pov.

I always admire indie authors for taking the leap into publishing, and the premise of this book genuinely caught my interest—it’s what pulled me in. As someone who’s also chasing that dream, I have so much respect for anyone who finishes a novel and puts it out into the world.

I want to offer honest feedback in the spirit of encouragement and growth. While the concept had a lot of promise, I struggled to connect with the characters. They felt a little underdeveloped to me, and because of that, some of the emotional moments didn’t hit as hard as they could have. When the main character faced difficult situations, I found myself wishing I understood her better—so I could feel with her, not just read about what she was going through.

There were also moments where I felt a little confused or disconnected from the direction of the plot. I often caught myself wondering, Why is this happening? Why does it matter right now?—not out of frustration, but because I wanted a clearer sense of what was driving the story forward. With some added depth and buildup, those moments could really shine.

The pacing was a bit uneven in spots, and the writing leaned on some well-worn tropes and phrases that pulled me out of the story a few times. But even then, I could sense the creativity behind it all—and it’s clear the author has a passionate voice and a strong imagination.

While this book didn’t fully land for me, I still see the potential here. I truly hope the author keeps writing, because growth happens book by book. I’d love to see how her style evolves in future works, and I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next one.

I was expecting this to be more like the darkmore penitentiary book, so it was a little bit of a let down. The plot twist at the end of the book does make me want to read the next book.

Wouldn’t recommend.
