In the best way - this is baby’s first dystopia. Had I read this as a teenager I would’ve devoured it in delight and I think that holds true for any young adult reading it now. It doesn’t shy away from dark themes but handles them delicately, it’s secretive but not convoluted and the FMC is relatively likeable for what can sometimes be a grating personality type. It’s a really great starting point for people younger than me but it doesn’t hit quite right as an adult and that’s okay.

He tases her and threatened to kill her more than once. I can’t see myself advocating for a relationship between the two at this point.

This book is super ouchy considering americas political climate. But I felt like the pacing was really refreshing. It didn’t need 600 pages to get its point across. The romance was a plot point but not the plot point. And I’m interest to see how the rest of the series fairs. Since this was a shorter book I’m still waiting to see how the vibes are
