Is this the worst book set in Alaska I've read? No.

Is it in my top ten of worst books set in Alaska I've read? YES.

I truly don't understand Roberts's research. She nails local nuances such as "snowmachine" and references to the Permanent Fund Dividend, and then blows it with saying Susan Butcher won the Iditarod in *February* of 1988, and having the "State Police" investigate a murder. No one wins the Iditarod in February because it starts in March every year and we have State Troopers, not police. These are extremely simple things to google.

Overall it's a wholly inaccurate portrayal of the backdrop of Alaska and the people who live there. It felt like a bland literary version of Northern Exposure. The mystery plot was extremely long, boring, and drawn out all to be neatly wrapped up in the last two chapters. As for the "romance" between Nate and Meg? I didn't feel the chemistry. Meg was a caricature of a "tough Alaskan woman" that was hard to take seriously (and frankly, a tad insulting to those of us identifying as women living in Alaska) and Nate and his I-have-a-tortured-past story line was just as laughable and shallow.

This was my first Nora Roberts book, and sadly I would be hard pressed to pick up another.

DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 10%.

I expected as much. Maybe I would feel differently at another time, but as it is, I have no patience for stories of people who deal with mental health issues by running away and cutting off all contact with friends and family, especially when it's presented as "the right thing to do".

So damn amazing!!!! Every book of Nora Roberts is so lively and down right filled with awesomeness!

Love Nora Roberts books, and loved this suspenseful- romance from the man's point of view!

Action was a bit anticlimactic but overall a compelling story.

So understand this review has nothing to do with the book, which is one of my favorite of her's which is like saying it's my favorite paperclip, there's always another around just like it, but unaccountably not as appealing. No this is public place for me to rant about Lifetime making NR books into TERRIBLE movies. I mean you're Lifetime for cry eye. It's not like you have any other original programming so take some time and do it right, like a miniseries. And get some decent casting too. I'd rather it be unknown actors than LeAnn freaking Rimmes playing an ALASKAN!! Really? Come on. Still heart NR. A girl's got to make her money.

I won’t name my daughter Lyra
