I prefer stand alone novels but this was definitely an older one. I am seeing The Soulful Police Chief a lot but I couldn't really get behind the lurv between Nate and Meg. She just doesn't seem the type.
Not my favorite book of hers, but still a good story.

This was okay. Not bad, but not great either. I did enjoy the Alaskan setting, it reminded me of Northern Exposure (in a good way!). The romance was too fast to really get me invested. The murder mystery did keep me guessing to the end.
The story starts out a bit slow and has a lot of detail in it about living in the Alaskan wilderness.
Nate the chief of police has a rough past, but moving to Alaska seems to help him.
Until there is a major crime spree.... I won't go into any more details but suffice it to say there is murder, mayhem and a multitude of potential criminals for Nate to work through.
Good story, but it did take a bit to get through due to the slow nature, but it had a nice plot and a lot of information.

Great book, with an interesting twist. Finished this book awhile ago but have not had an opportunity to update my status. I am a huge Roberts fan and think as usual she keeps us guessing until the very end. I enjoyed the vividness of her descriptions of Alaska and how she is able to break down a character and their struggles where we as readers feel connected to them and their plight. Thank you Ms. Roberts for another great book. Loved it.
This was good. Nate is a cop from the "Lower 48," as the Alaskan characters in the novel refer to the continental US as. He moves to a small town in Alaska called Lunacy to escape his past by working as their chief of police. While working through his own issues, Nate meets a girl (it's a Nora Roberts, you saw that coming!) and stumbles into a crime that may impact their blossoming relationship. It was pretty enjoyable.
This was my first Nora Roberts book and I started it with zero expectations. In her career, Nora has written hundreds of books so I expected this to be formulaic and phoned-in. (I have read books from other writers with similarly long bibliographies and was let down).
This books was really well done. The characters, the plot, and the setting of a small Alaskan town were all very compelling. I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely read more.
