This one was bad. Oh well, where to start... First of all, I liked Meg's character, but unfortunately, when it comes to Nora's female characters, theye are either bitchy and without manners or they are too pathetic, this one belongs to the first group obviously.
The worst thing in this book was probably the relationship between the daughter, her soon-to-be husband and her slutty mother. It was like some bad porno movie, but seriously. The mother Charlene is a real slutty cougar, attacking and sleeping with almost all men she can get a hold of. Meg is aware of this, this is similar to the ones in [b:Midnight Bayou|114132|Midnight Bayou|Nora Roberts|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1309200744s/114132.jpg|3241470] but the relationship there isn't stupid and perverse like this one. So Meg sees how her mother kisses and fondles Nate, and in the beginning Nate even thinks of Charlene as a hot woman, I mean, she even gets him horny the second time when he knows she is Meg's mother. And then he will marry her daughter, she will organize their wedding, they will all remember their triangle and nobody will care about it. Is that normal? Of course it is not.
The 'mystery' and crime in the book are boring.
I guess this is it. Dunno if it is sad or pathetic.

I love this book, I have always loved this book. Nate and Meg are awesome as individuals and are even better as a couple. But it's the way Ms. Roberts makes you feel like you are part of Alaska that really takes your breath away. The sights you can visualize are beautiful and amazing. Murder, mystery, love, HEA's, and a beautiful world what more could you ask for.
Got bored and didn't like the characters that much. DNF at 50%

This is what I like to think of as Peak Nora Roberts: good story telling, mystery, love, open door romance but not too spicy.
Northern lights has always been my favorite because of the way she handled Nate’s depression and watching how he came alive slowly again. and how she made you feel like you were in Alaska with the imagery. You could really understand why it helped Nate. Also with Meg.

I read this old school Nora specifically for the Alaska setting. It was filled with so many amazing things about the state; loved it. The plot and the heroine were okay, definitely a little dated. Overall, it was exactly what I had anticipated.
As a Baltimore cop, Nate Burke watched his partner die on the street—and the guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he accepted the job as Chief of Police in a tiny, remote Alaskan town with the hopes of starting over. Despite the name, Lunacy provides a balm for Nate's shattered soul—and an unexpected affair with pilot Meg Galloway warms his nights...
