The most generous thing I can say about this memoir is that it is a testament to the intersectionality of the pain and struggles experienced by people whose lives and experiences fall outside of the proscribed social norms. That being said, this book was slow and meandering, scattered and mournful without ever really forging connections with the reader. I recognize that part of this is because I have the luxury of living a different experience, but many memoirs manage to capture the reader and bind them to the story regardless of whether they are looking into a mirror or window. Not a book I would recommend to others.

beautiful, but also unrelenting. found myself hoping for a reprieve as each new chapter began… but each was more gutting than the last. FYI: not a straightforward linear memoir, was quite lyrical / prosey, but i very much cared for that. last chapter was chock full of footnotes - ALSO LOVED THAT.

The writing is lovely and the content is so personal and intense. But it was just too long and about too much and began to feel redundant. And having to flip back to the notes at the end multiple times a page really broke up the flow of reading. There’s already footnotes and an unconventional style…just put the quotes in the text.

Sarah Aziza is a remarkable writer. Her voice is powerful and reflective. The narrative about her battle with anorexia and how it emerged is harrowing, especially how it is intertwined with her identity as Palestinian. The way she weaves historical and political context into her personal story is especially moving.

Incredible. While the content was tough and heavy at times, it helped to have the words written so poetically.
A very interesting insight into the authors life, and I enjoyed how the memoir didn't stick to a totally linear path.
Definitely would recommend checking out the content warnings, and be in the right headspace to read. I very much enjoyed listening to the author narrate this.
