Loved it!

I absolutely LOVED this book. The fantasy world created is honestly everything I could ever dream of. The writing was so descriptive and I could feel myself there. I loved the magic, the forest, the bonds between characters. The story took me on a magical journey and I absolutely cannot wait to read the second book, For the Throne.

All I want in my life now is to bargain with a magical forest and find a man who smells of coffee, books, and leaves. That is all.

Overall, I really liked this book! The story was exciting and kept me hooked and I enjoyed most of the characters!

The world wasn’t very developed and there were some things that were just too convenient and not explained. Why can Red see when Eammon is in trouble but not Lyra or Fife?

Red isn’t my favorite heroine ever, but I did like that she had accepted her fate but then was ready to pivot and adapt once it didn’t go as expected. She didn’t just waste away and complain about her life.

Eammon and the Wilderwood was probably my favorite part. So intricate and interesting. And Eammon is such a sweetie with a good heart.

And I am intrigued enough to read the next one!

There was some implied/innuendo stuff especially at the end, but not too bad and fairly easily skipped if wanted.

I'd heard a lot of talk about this book a while ago, so I thought I'd give it a chance. The first half of it frustrated me because of the lack of information given to Red. It felt like it took a while for things to start happening. The second half of the book kept me enthralled and makes me want to read the next one. I like how the story mixes different fairy tales, like Little Red Riding Hood and Beauty and the Beast, without feeling cliche or like it's trying to include too much of each. The worldbuilding is unique. The narration could get repetitive at times. Overall I enjoyed the story and want to know what happens next.
