Her greatest achievement. The ultimate flex, the "I can do anything" novel. Masterclass in prose, storytelling, symbolism, etc. Beloved made Morrison one of the greatest writers to ever live and Jazz makes her the greatest.

An absolute masterclass - the complex storyweaving really felt like the essence of jazz put to words yet still had you caring so deeply about all the characters. Also loved the personification of the narrator. One of those books that will stay with you for a while after you close the page.

Enjoyed the perspective flow for the most part, and the non-linear storytelling, but the backstory chapters in the second half did absolutely nothing for me. Instantly felt bored.

Probably the most beautifully written book I’ve ever read. I get the complaints about it being hard to follow but I think it’s purposeful & honestly works in its favor for the most part (+ a lot of these reviews are greatly exaggerating how confusing it is lmao). Just an absolutely gorgeous novel wow

This novel has some of the most dazzling, awe-inspiring writing - multiple times I stopped to take in and then re read and re read certain passages because they were so gloriously written, Morrisons words are so loaded, and she wastes nothing. The ending was beautiful, the middle was confusing in a good way (and as Morriso 's books usually are), so I think this is one that will get better with successive readings.
