This is book 4 in the series and it opens with a literal bang. Two female campers have been injured in Malibu Creek State Park in what looks like a shotgun attack and Eve and Duncan are called into investigate.
But the shotgun attack isn’t anything new to Duncan. For over 14 months there have been reports of shotgun incidents all around the Malibu Creek State Park, which Duncan believes are the work of a sniper, but he is stonewalled by his bosses in taking this theory any further.
But this time around, Duncan isn’t on his own. He has Eve to help him investigate and she isn’t one to be told what to do and where to investigate. Eve is always after the truth, no matter where it takes or how much danger it puts her in.
“Movieland” was probably my least favourite book in the series. I thought the sniper storyline wasn’t as exciting as other storyline’s in previous books. The best part of “Movieland” was the friendship between Duncan and Eve. I was worried going into this book about Duncan’s retirement edging closer and Eve losing her wingman at the station. But I liked the solution that eventuated.
Will definitely keep reading the series. 3.5 stars from me.
** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher**

4 stars for another page turner in the Eve Ronin series. This is book 4 in the series, and they are better if read in order, since she is attacked again(3rd time) in this book, based on events that happened in book 2. She is lucky to be alive, since each attack was meant to kill her. In real life she probably would be dead, but this is fiction.
Eve and her partner Duncan "Dunkin Donuts" Pavone are called to the scene of a shooting. Duncan realizes that it is connected to a series of previous shootings in and near Malibu Creek State Park. He wanted to keep investigating the previous shootings, but was told to move on to other cases.
Numerous people are involved in the coverup of these shootings, including the State Park Superintendent. They are all concerned about negative publicity.
Eve and Duncan do solve the case, but not before more people are shot. There are numerous suspects, and I was not sure of who the shooter was until the end.
One quote: "Duncan dug into his three-by-three animal-style burger(three mustard infused beef patties, three slices of cheese) and animal fries(french fries slathered in melted cheese, chopped onions and their secret burger sauce) while Eve worked on her regular cheeseburger, fries and a Coke."
Although it is 335 pages, I read it in 3 days. I recommend it to police procedural fans and fans of this series.

3.5 stars so an above average read for me. The Eve Ronin books I've read (all but #3 so far) have all been quick, fast-paced reads that are quite entertaining. Nothing genre bending or classic but quick, entertaining reads and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Kudos to the authors that are able to consistently crank those out.

As series fans will know, Eve Ronin has been through a lot. She has struggled to defend her position in the LASD. Her workload has been tough, which isn’t helped by her inability to occasionally leave work at the office. Movieland does work well as a stand-alone though. Goldberg gives us enough background to know where Eve stands and what led her there.
This time around, Eve and her partner, Duncan Pavone, are investigating the shooting of two campers, one of whom was killed. It turns out that this was just the latest shooting in a string of them, some of which were reported to the police and some of which the park rangers kept to themselves. When another person is killed the question becomes are all seemingly random shootings related? Are there copycats taking advantage of the situation?
Because there are so many incidents, we have multiple suspects and a variety of witnesses. Goldberg does a good job keeping all the strands clear even while Eve and Duncan are chasing a variety of leads. Duncan is closing in on retirement, but he feels responsible for this case, and isn’t going to let the politicians keep the danger the sniper poses to the public under wraps.
Overall, this is a gripping, fast-paced novel. It has plenty of action, suspense and some violence. Eve ends up with several injuries – again. It’s a good summer read, maybe by the pool with a bowl of pretzels.

Fourth in the series with Eve Ronin, a great character. Although some things are implausible, with my love for Eve it’s forgivable.
