Awwwn. This was so fun to read. I missed reading children's books and picked this one off the library shelf as I thought Jemima Puddle-duck looked really dashing and ladylike in her bonnet and all her 'duckery '. Might start rereading a lot of children's books now. Ah, the nostalgia.

Mr. Tod is portrayed effectively as a villain in this book, while Jemima Puddle-Duck is innocent, simple-minded, and easily fooled. Dogs are "good," and foxes are "bad," though it is ultimately the dogs who eat the eggs and go unpunished.

I don't remember reading this as a child, but I love Beatrix Potter's illustrations and how adorable these little stories are. To be honest, I didn't really get the appeal of this story. Everyone seems shocked about how intense and serious the plot is, but I read the entire Redwall series as a child, so this didn't surprise me here and there's actually no violence in this story. Perhaps through the eyes of a child this book is magic, but as an adult it feel flat for me.
