informative medium-paced

I'm not who this book is for.

The leadership principles presented make sense, but didn’t translate well from military lift to business for me. A lot of their points were overshadowed by very repetitive (and somewhat showy/conceited) war stories and inability to let go of military jargon and word things in civilian form.

Definitely recommend. Listened to the audio book and loved hearing how hardcore they are. You’ll learn about modern military operations as well as benefit from very clear, unabashed leadership advice that requires you to look in the mirror. Discipline equals freedom - I am into it!

Takeaways
- Cover and move (Team work)
- Simple (complexity breeds chaos)
- Prioritize and execute
- Decentralize command (everyone leads)

I'll be honest, I didn't really like the military stuff. It wasn't for me, and I ended up skimming over those sections in the latter parts of the book. The authors spent a lot of time trying to justify how and why they killed people, but in the end, killing human beings is killing human beings. So, I struggled with those parts (as I struggle with war being a consequence of living in a broken world.)

That being said, I thought the leadership stuff was pretty solid. Did I find myself critiquing those in leadership above me in my head whilst reading it? Yes. Have I ever been in a leadership position like that tho? No. And will I revisit this book once I am in a more leadership position? Also, yes. There are some principles I can work with now, in my current position, so I did learn from it.

But, I don't think I'm the target audience for this book. And that's okay.

An interesting book, with exciting examples to drive home the points the authors are trying to make. A lot of really good people management ideas starting with yourself. I really enjoyed it.

Good business and leadership principals, but good god I hate war. I would not have read this but my boss literally paid me to do so.

Solid book. After reading Start With Why, this is the book I wanted that book to be.

Great book about ownership and accountability.
Biggest takeaways
- there are no bad teams, only bad leaders
- ask questions until you understand why something is important
- a true leader is not intimidated when others step up and take charge
- you must work together within your company/platoon/etc and support each other as one team

This is a very good book about leadership. I have worked for bad leaders, ok leaders and great leaders and the ones I have always trusted the most follow the lessons in this book. Living these lessons to their fullest is a definite goal of mine and I’m currently a work in progress. I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to succeed in a leadership role. 5*
