Definitely an interesting, easy and very engaging read: looking at leadership through the lens of war is a great learning opportunity. I just would have loved some more structure and more condensed take aways.

A very interesting book. I really enjoyed hearing the first person account of what Ramadi was like in 2006. These are probably the best parts of the book.
The other parts consist of maxims or lessons that the two narrators have drawn from these experiences. Although most of these lessons are logical and well-explained, I sometimes found them too surface level or obvious.
Some of the descriptions of Iraqi soldiers also seemed a bit callous.

Book 8 of 40. I’ve just finished ‘Extreme Ownership’ by Jocko Willink and Leif Bebin. I give it a 5 star rating.
There’s nothing like a non-fiction book filled with military stories that get the blood pumping in a way most non-fiction books wouldn’t. Extreme Ownership takes the stories of Jocko and Leif’s time in a US Navy Seal Teams Iraqi operations, pulls out the leadership principles and then applies it to the business environment.
Extreme Ownership is about looking inwards at your responsibilities as a leader and the impact on the results. We are quick to blame the environment, the economics, our reports and our line of command for the failures in execution. This book will remind you that more often than not, it was your fault you didn’t communicate, didn’t plan enough, didn’t lead people actively and didn’t manage upwards.
Reflecting on these failures can be painful and cause defensiveness, but a true intention of Extreme Ownership will remove those obstacles and allow you achieve the mission you set.

Super impactful read for me. My only issue was how repetitive it was at times.
You should read this if you’re in any leadership role…and you should also read it if you’re not.
