Philip Pullman's return, albeit in graphic novel form, doesn't disappoint. Action, the high seas, time travel, an evil/greedy corporate CEO - this yarn's got it all. I'd be thrilled if this became a series.

This was a lot of fun! I picked it up because it was written Phillip Mothercussing Pullman, and overall, it did not disappoint. The story follows John Blake as he careens through time on the (magical?) ship the Mary Alice. The plot, for a graphic novel, was a liiiiiiiiiiittle too convoluted, but as I think this is Pullman's first graphic novel, he totally gets a pass. Anyway, I liked it! Seafaring adventures and time travelling shenanigans made for an entertaining read that was right up my alley. Art was fine. 3 stars.

Det er en flot gennemgående streg, dog kan taleboblerne godt irritere mig. Flere steder er teksten ikke tilpasset størrelse på boblen, f.eks. at ved fordele sætningen på to linjer, så sætningen ikke stikker ud for taleboblen. Det kan godt være, at det virker som en bagatel, men jeg synes at det er utrolig forstyrrende. Det er til gengæld en sjov idé at ændre taleboblerne form ud fra hvad/hvem, der lyden kommer fra; menneske, sprog, telefon, jukeboks, mm. Den del med jukeboksen fungerede ikke for mig. Teksten blev trukket så skævt, at jeg have utrolig svært ved at læse, hvad der stod i boblen. I forhold til illustrationerne er de utrolig flotte og understøtter teksten.

Not that great addition to Pullman's published work. Story was too brief and it felt like I was missing 5 pages of exposition somewhere to make sense of it all. Presented the approach to a ship that can time travel, the ship seems to take them where they need to be, not for themselves but to save others lost in the water. It needed to be longer or set over a shorter scope of time (ha) and go more deeply into character development.

Admito que las tres estrellas son más por la edición y los dibujos.
La historia es simple: un barco fantasma que ha sido avistando varias veces a lo largo de la historia. Una chica cae de un bote y es rescatada por un tripulante de este barco fantasma, por lo que se inmersa en toda la historia. Descendientes de los tripulantes también están obsesionados con el barco y desean encontrarlo.
Podría haber sido muy interesante y oscura, pero fue superficial y algo vacía. Se lee muy rápido y entretiene, aunque no llega a encantar, los personajes no producen nada (ni los villanos) y la historia no engancha.

Interessant concept dit verhaal. Leuk ook dat dit in graphic novel versie is. Dan zie je wel de verschillen in de tijden, zonder dat je veel tijd kwijt bent met het beschrijven er van.
Het lezen ging erg snel dus ook, en dat is eigenlijk wel jammer. Best een verhaal waar ik langer over zou kunnen en willen doen, dus had het in 'gewone' boekvorm misschien ook wel leuk gevonden.
Een leuke kruising tussen een modern actie/spionageverhaal en een historisch verhaal. Unieke combinatie, door dat tijdreizen er in ook. En door de illustraties zie ik het wel goed voor me.
Aanrader voor iedereen die eens zin heeft in iets anders, iets unieks!

Leuk! Graphic novels zijn niks voor mij, dat weet ik nu wel :) geen geduld voor.
Maar als je er dan eentje lezen wilt, neem dan deze. Of Nimona. Nimona is de allerleukste!
