I didn't like book #3. Not a bit.

Everything is so confusing and messed up. It mostly consists of Bryn, and many others, being in and out of their bodies, wading through one dream nightmare to the next. Since it's a dream world nothing really makes sense, or is cohesive. And then I couldn't remember who was in their body or out of their body, and sometimes real people where interacting with the dream bodies, or the real bodies. Or real people interacting with shadows that seemed dreamlike. It was frustrating.

And Roman, I don't like Roman. Every time I attempted to like him, he was always doing something violent, or at least making terrible decisions. Even Bryn the one who is supposed to like him, seems to struggle with overcoming some of his baser shortcomings.

And these stupid shadows don't make sense. Everyone is always killing them, but their doesn't seem to be any rules about how they work. And the Rogues who are supposed to somehow protect their Dreamers, never end up protecting anyone. They show up, ash some shadows, and everything bad till happens, people are still kidnapped or infested....like, what is the point of them really?

This was all just a crazy ball of nightmares, held together with confusion, persistent vines, and Chinese food.

Not sure what I think of it. It seemed to drag along a lot. Also a lot of things that didn't add up with the other books, such as Roman getting bus to Bryns and later saying he should get back before his dad noticed he was missing... In the first book it was a 10 hour drive for Bryn to get to Roman, so that 20 hours there and back plus going the hospital and everything else he does, must be over 24 hours, I'm sure his dad would have noticed he was missing by then.

It did pick up at the end and we began to find out why the dreamers existed, but still found it very hard to keep up with with a lot of characters to understand

I adored this series. I enjoyed Kemp's writing. I was enchanted by the plot and the mythology described. I only started reviewing books a couple years ago on anywhere, but I put off writing this review for a looooong time. 5 years from reading the book, 2 years from actually putting reviews. But, considering, whenever I am talking about my favourite books/series, I eventually end up thinking of this one and the words 'Do you want to know the most disappointing/maddening book series I have ever read was?' starts my review, I need to put it somewhere, so I can stop talking about it. For years I have been telling my friends and family and anyone who would listen about this series, but never left a review... because it was too final... too heart breaking. I actually came across this book as a free ebook on kindle. I LOVED it. I was hooked, I wanted to know more. I got the second one (or I think the author offered to send readers the second, I can't remember if that was this story or another). Regardless, I read it, and I LOVED it. I was so excited and I got the third... and I loved it, the climax was so enticing. The Children of the Moon was winding down, the main character found her sage/mentor figure who would lead her to her destiny of defeating the big bad guy, I was ready for the next book... and then... what does the character do?!!! She sneaks away from her mentor and friends to confront the the BBG by herself, does so, gets herself killed (and somehow not?) IN THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS. An entire books' worth of plot shoved into the end of a book. It was a train speeding toward me that I couldn't help but stare at like a deer. I was chanting, 'no, no, no, please stop' as I continued to read... And then it was over and I couldn't read the next one. I was betrayed and sad and I felt like that was the end of the series, I have no idea what the 4th book holds, never even read the synopsis. I hope for those who could read the 4th that it was as good as the 1st, 2nd, and first half of the 3rd.

Not as good as 1 & 2.
Things seemed to regress and not move forward. The last part of the book was very confusing - I couldn’t work out who Bryn or Roman were or why certain things were happening. I totally lost the world budding and characterisation just blurred. Just not feeling it to continue to Book 4 which is a shame.

Imala sam i noćne more. To mi se jedini put dogodilo s Connollyjevom Knjigom izgubljenih stvari.
Zbog toga mi je u jednom trenutku bilo dosta, čak sam i u progressu/statusu napisala "nikad kraja ovoj knjizi", jer Laekan Zea Kemp zaista zna opisati snove!
Gotovo. Ima i četvrti dio.

I picked up book 1 for free and liked the story enough to buy book 2 and 3.
I didn't like book 3 though. It was weird, but not in a good way and I felt like it was drawn out with not much happening. I still want to know how the story finishes, but I wouldn't pay to read book 4 when it comes out.

OMG! I don't really have words for this book. I will say that all 4 of these books should be read together as once. They aren't separate books. This book filled in a lot of the back story that the previous book laid the ground work for, and really gave depth to all of the main characters. I found myself at the brink of tears a few times throughout the story. Can't wait to read the conclusion tonight. My only complaint with this book is there are a few places where the author reminds us of characters traits and it feels out of place maybe because i've reading them back to back to back. But they way they are laid out it doesn't feel right to through in a don't forget in the first book we let you know this character can do this because of this blah blah. Also, they never address finances. It pulled me out of the story with all the traveling these people do, and the fact that they live in Austin. Maybe it's just me that was wondering where all the money comes for many of the characters but it pulled me out of the story a few times. (Also I live in Austin so that might add to it LOL!) finally just wanted to note that the covers with the moon rising are beautiful.

dark mysterious tense medium-paced
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This book continues to expand on Roman's character development a lot, more than anything else. Bryn spent most of her time in this book in the dream world, struggling to find her role in freeing others from the shadows. Stakes are a lot higher with children around the world dying and falling into strange coma like states. The rules of the paranormal aren't explained super well, but I don't mind that as much as a lot of other people do. I really enjoyed how Roman's story is being developed. Seeing him regress sometimes, make mistakes, and have to struggle to make morally questionable decisions allowed me to see the character as realistic and human. I really appreciate flawed characters because I think a lot of young adult novels are overflooded with "too perfect" male leads. Roman has likeable characteristics and had his own redemption arc to get through that is relatable. I'm not sure what the author is planning to do with Bryn's situation at the moment considering the book's shocking end. I am looking forward to seeing more of Felix and Dani. We haven't really seen a lot of them together, and I'm curious to know if they will actually end up being a couple. I'm looking forward to the end of this series. Let us hope I am not dissapointed.
