Bramblestar and Squirrelflight finally had kits, Alderkit and Sparkkit, soon to become Alderpaw and Sparkpaw. Alderpaw winds up a medicine cat apprentice and goes on the titular quest. I cried for Sandstarom. At the end, we meet Violetkit and Twigkit, but we finish the book without knowing how they fit into the prophecy.

I can't wait to read the next book! At the beginning it was a bit slow, but once you get along it speeds up quite nicely.

Fun, fun, fun. I’ve been reading these books since I was about nine and I can’t stop because they keep publishing new ones!
They’re all the same but somehow that’s really nostalgic and comforting instead of boring. I think this was a strong start to this new series. Needlepaw is actually a very complex character! Who’d have thought in a book about cats?
Yeah, not much to say other than I am happy.

Don't even talk to me here I am back again reading AVoS which is where I lost the plot of Warriors for years.
Sandstorm's death did make me kind of emotional.

→ 3 stars (★★★)

Though it suffers from the inherent problems of being both a travelling book and having more setup than payoff, Needlepaw, Sparkpaw, and especially Alderpaw are an interesting trio, Sandstorm's journey and eventual death is an emotional farewell to one of the series' original characters, and the ending is as traumatic as it is a great way to hype up what comes next. One of the better first books in Warrior Cats' pantheon (though that's...not a high bar to clear.)

Ik ben al heel veel jaren een fan van Warrior Cats en dit was weer een leuk boek om te lezen. De katten waren interessant en er is een verassend einde.
