3.5 stars. Held my attention but the characters were all pretty unlikable with the exception of Sadie.

A book about family, insecurities, betrayal and not being aware of the many blessings we do have. About not being good enough, trying to be perfect when no one is asking you to be perfect, about keeping a façade. Sadie irritated me at times with her lack of self esteem. Juliet's story was the one I really liked. She had a very good life and a man who truly loved her she just was too blind to see it. I'm glad she was smart enough to get it at the end. Juliet's and Sadie's mum, Barb, got the short end of the stick though. A husband of 50 years who cheated on her and for many years! No sympathy for the man. A good book but at times a bit too slow.

Another Kristan Higgins book that is a stand alone and I typically love her books that are stand alones, but for me this one as was just ok. The Frost family contains mother, father, and two daughters. When the story begins, the father has had a heart attack and the daughter that lived far away has come home to help nurse him back to health, but also to rethink what she wants her future to look like.

With each of the family members taking turns to tell their side of the story, the book started with presenting each member and the drama they were dealing with. I think for me this is didn't work for me and it was hard to start sort of down in the dumps from the beginning. The first few chapters and so many odd pages were just filled with drama drama and more drama and I was worried that was how the whole book was going to feel like. Thankfully once the story started moving forward it got better, but not enough for me to fall in love with it.

This was my first book by Kristan Higgins, although I have always been interested in her books as I know she writes about women at various stages of life, which I enjoy. In this one, there is Barb, the mother who has been married for 50 years. There is Juliet, who is married with children and dealing with challenges in her career. And there is Sadie, who is single and reunites with her former flame. There is a woman in this book for any reader to identify with.

I also appreciated the chapters narrated by John, who has had a stroke and suffers from brain injury. It is heart breaking to see what he is going through from his own viewpoint and how he goes from barely knowing who he is to remembering his life and family.

Overall, I found this to be a fun escape from reality and a nice look into a family of strong women characters.

Unfortunately, this is my least favorite book I have read from Kristan Higgins. It was so slow paced and I had to force myself to keep reading hoping that something exciting was going to happen, but it never did.
While at certain points in my life I have felt like Barb, I still didn’t connect with her. In fact, I didn’t feel a connection with any of the characters. Sadie absolutely got on my nerves with all her blabbering.
And the text messages sent between John and WORK were the worst!!
I really wanted to like this book because I have enjoyed Kristan Higgins in the past but this is just a no for me.
I received an electronic copy of this book from Netgalley and Penguin Random House in exchange for my honest review.
