This poetry collection is a challenge, but I like it still. It has a playfulness with language that seductively carries the reader along, often so fragmented that certain word groupings can appear meaningless. However, over the course of the text, the political undertones of the collection cannot be ignored. This work is about the brutal force of capital and its attendant collateral damage over an amazing sweep of time, not simply limited to the conflation of the author (Myung Mi Kim) with her personal experiences of immigration and identity.
