Is this book a bit ridiculous? Absolutely. Was it hilarious and entertaining? Also yes. Did it have the signature TJ Klune found family with a swoon-worthy relationship at its core? Yes yes yes. I'll admit, the writing wasn't always as polished as I wanted it to be (the book is a little long by the end and the plot kind of loses itself), but I didn't care because of how much I loved the characters. They are 100% what propel the story forward, and I loved them even more as I got further into the story.
If you've read any of TJ Klune's newer stuff, you can see how much his writing has grown since this book. And that makes me even more excited to read the other books in this series and see how my new favorite found family fares. Because they dserve the world and I can't wait to see what ridiculous advventures they get up to next.

Although overall this was a bit too crass and explicit for my taste, it was funny and light-hearted, which was what I needed from a book at the time. I could see how this book might not be for everyone (humour is subjective), but overall I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the characters and the bonds between characters. It was very witty at times, but at other times the jokes became tiresome. Some nice escapism if you are open to many (and I mean MANY) jokes about dicks, sex, butts, and bestiality.

The author uses the term "rapey" in jest a few times, which is why I added the rape CW.grexcarolinii's review against another edition

I generally try not to rate books I don't finish, but I tried so hard with this one as it was a recommendation from a friend, and so really wanted to love it.
It is worth noting - this is a comedy
and humour is one of the most subjective things, so in a comedy book, can obviously make or break the entire experience
And this wasn't my humour in the slightest, not even close
This book was just... sickening to me
Just constant cringe talk of sex - I'd say innuendo, but it wasn't subtle or clever enough to be even that
Add to that a number of "references" to (trigger warning!)rape, and racism and sexual trafficking
that just felt so wholly out of touch, and so left a foul taste in my mouth
The one star I gave this one was for the actual on-page mention of Asexuality, and I'm just that starved for ace-rep
(though yay for yet again conflating asexuality and aromanticism, that neeeeeever gets tiring at all (/sarcasm)
Edit: Taken the star away because I can feel the bile rise in my throat every time I think of this book
