4/5 stars; let me start out by saying benedict in Shondaland is SO much better than benedict from the original book. in the show, he is charming, carefree, happy, funny, and all around a decent and loving member of the Bridgerton family. he was immediately my favorite from the start of the series and I was so disappointed to see them skipping his story to go to Collins. I understand why but still I NEED more Benedict in my life... but only in Shondaland. In the book, he was fine. some of the things he said to Sophie and just in general were a bit cringey. I did that thing where because I wanted to love a book so much I ignored the parts that would have made me question the character in any other book. so I'll be the first to admit I gave benedict a free pass at times when other characters would have gotten accosted. I AM A BENEDICT APOLIGIZER!!!!!!

onto the story, I wasn't the biggest fan of the cinderella retelling. I don't love retellings anyway so I was a bit disappointed at the beginning; the rest of the story made up for it though. Sophie came across a bit dull and dumb at times but she stuck up for herself against her family and Benedict so I will credit her for that. I love love love the Bridegertons throughout this book. their family is something I think everyone wishes they were born into. their banter and dynamic rose this rating for me exponentially. violet is a mf queen and everyone should bow down. all in all, I was a bit disappointed by Benedicts book BUT I still love Benedict, and the Bridgertons and their life. onto Collin and Penelope, hopefully mans can redeem himself because at this point PEN should just MOVE ON!! COLLIN TREATS HER LIKE SHIT!! alas, I know they'll fall in love but hopefully his redemption is believable.
spice: 3/5 (bc I was picturing the actor Benedict WHEW I will not remain calm at the lake scene I already know)

A new romantic adventure starts as a Cinderella story, but carries on when the "prince" doesn't find his mystery girl. However, the real story takes place when their paths cross again, but he doesn't realize it's the same girl.
The prince in this case is Benedict, the second son in the Bridgerton family, and our Cinderella is an illegitimate daughter of an Earl Sophie. After helping her from a terrible altercation, Benedict helps secure her place as a ladies maid in his mothers home but he can't keep himself away. And as much as she wants to set her feelings aside that she has for him, she can't keep her eyes, or hands, off him.

I enjoy this book so much more than the 2nd in the series, Julia does have a nack for creating interesting and unique characters, and in this case, I couldn't rest until I knew they were happy together! I enjoyed the teasing characteristics of Benedict and the strong willed and sweet Sophie, they felt full of life, and at the end, I was sad to turn the last page and close their story together.

I always enjoy this family. Not as good as the previous books but still a good read.
