So many pages and so little happened. Book 1 left us with a lot of questions and book 2 with even more. Bit frustrating.
I was looking for an easy to read book and got exactly that.

Well. I didn't particularly care for the first book, and this one wasn't any better. I'll give Boleyn this - this book had more action than book 1. More <i>stuff</i> was going on. Did any of it make sense or mean anything or serve any real purpose? Nope. But there was action! And sex! And dragon...shifters? I don't know man.
I have thoughts - not reader's notes, but things that cropped up during the read that I felt compelled to discuss. That's all you're getting out of this review because I literally could not care less about this story.
***Potential spoilers ahead.***
1.Nyxaris is just Temu Tairn. The way he and Medra have almost the exact same conversations from time to time. It almost feels like plagiarism.
<b>"I'm going to die, aren't I?"
"You are not going to die . . . You will not fall. I will not allow it. I will not permit you to humiliate me in such a ridiculous way." </b>
Sounds an awful lot like the first flight Violet had with Tairn, no? It's just... stupider. Less hilarious.
2. I love how, 23% of the way into this book, Boleyn randomly seemed to remember she left a giant gaping plot hole in book one where she had Medra show up in a decimated village full of dead people.
We got through book 1 in its entirety without a single question being raised about this particular situation, and now, after book 2 is a quarter of the way done we're FINALLY getting some 'splaining. Then, like 75% of the way through we get the vaguest description of Medra's past and how she got into this world in the first place. It explains nothing, just blames "magic" for why she ended up naked in another world.
But it's something?
Better late than never, I suppose. But it really just felt like Boleyn had NO FUCKING CLUE when she wrote it in book 1 and had to scramble to come up with something and put it in book 2 to keep people from losing their shit over it the way I did.
3. The situation with Vaughn (the dude who got hate-crimed in book 1) also gets remedied. He ends up in a less homophobic house at the request of the vampire who liked him. Which just made me go - what the fuck was the point of that scene at the end of book 1?
4. Blake's chapters pissed me off so bad. He's such a petulant little boy. Trying to make Medra jealous by making out with another woman in front of her, bitching and moaning about why she's not submitting to him when she's flat out TOLD him countless times that she's not just going to roll over and let him have his way when he offers her zero respect or consideration. Everything he does, every conversation he has with the woman is the exact same. Him making idle threats and her going "bitch I wish you would."
It's not sexy. He's not attractive as a character. It just comes across as impotent, petulant pouting. Who wants to be with a giant full-of-himself man-baby? Who's gonna swoon over that? Certainly not I.
But oh, he's hot, right? It doesn't matter how idiotic he is or how much he bullies or humiliates Medra, she thinks he's physically attractive, so suddenly nothing else matters except riding his dick.
Let's not bother with character growth and development, let's just let the characters see each other naked - that'll break down ALL the barriers and make them fall in love. 🙄😒
5. The attack that happens 60% of the way through makes no sense. Why are vampires attacking the students in the carriage? What was the deal with the silver wolf showing up out of nowhere to help Medra - she's never shown any affinity to connect with animals (outside the dragon, and let's face it, that connection is tenuous at best) before this moment.
[we do figure out what the deal with the wolf is later, but it still doesn't answer why it's there, how it knew to be there, or what it's fascination is with Medra.]
6. Blake remarks that Professor Rodriguez looks good for being "older" with his salt-and-pepper hair. Dude's 35. I'm so fucking offended. ðŸ˜
7. Suddenly, we're dealing with dragon and wolf shifters out of nowhere. There's been no lore or build up to this, mind. No hint that such a thing has ever existed or why or how it began. Guess real dragons weren't enough, now we need people turning <i>into</i> dragons, too.
8. What even was the end of this book? The plot disintegrated. The magic rules went out the window. Entire character arcs crumbled and died. I don't...
--
if none of that sounded like it came out of the same book, I'm not surprised. Cause shit went haywire somewhere in this book and somewhere between grumpy man babies and pouty clinically depressed dragons I quit caring. I really don't think I'll be picking up book 3.
