Since Netflix canceled the prequel series Age of Resistance, time to think not about how we got to the beloved Jim Henson movie, and more towards the prospect of how the heroes managed to fix their world and how good they paved the way for the future.
Short answer, NOT VERY WELL!
In addition to the crappy religious fanaticism corruption going on, there exists a species made entirely out of fire living in the core of the planet. Their molten world is dying, and an emissary sent to the Gelflings has been told that a fragment of the crystal is all that's needed to revive their world. But as we know from the movie proper, a fragment coming off the crystal was what gave birth to the monsters that essentially genocide'd all but two of the entire Gelfling race!
So begins the moral quandary of whether to let the fire people die cold & alone or to let the corrupted Gelfling muckity-mucks get their just desserts.
HILARIOUSLY, it seems like there's some hidden rule that in this world, girls out of their depths HAVE to acquire a cute&terrifying animal companion. We had the fizzgigs for the heroines of the prequel & movie, now the fire lass gets a tumbeloth: a mix between a turtle, otter, clam, AND TENTACLE MONSTER!

Loving it so far, excited to get as much dark crystal content as I can!
Found the new main characters a bit childish but they are children so that’s fair and they do it have the full story so that’s fair.
Excited to see where this goes

The story and characters get better with time, wasn’t too sure about them first volume but they are more fleshed out and at time morally ambiguous which make them feel more true. Loving it so far hoping it keeps getting better.

A sweet and heartwarming end to this story. Loved it ever moment, the characters really shines through and while I was sad to see Jen and Kira go, story wise it was the right chose, new time, new story, new heroes.
Love it

I love the dark crystal, both the film and the netflix series, when I saw this was an official sequel. I had to read this and find out what happened to everyone after the film.
It was a fantastic beginning, so much happened we saw all the characters from the film Aughra is the best, funny and mad and that prophecy was just MAD and CRAZY.

Wow, this story was really unexpected. A lot of times, comic sequels feel like just fanfic of the original story. But this is head and shoulders above what I imagined.

This story takes place centuries after the events of Jen and Kira's fight to save their world from the evil Skeksis. Our original heroes have been made into godlike figureheads while priests pretend to speak for them.

When events across the land finally reach their sleeping ears, it may be too late. This volume ends with a new set of heroes trying desperately to save their own dying world while Jen finally finds his feet and sets out on one last adventure.

I love the film The Dark Crystal, but I’ve held off on reading the recent graphic novel series because I’m not sure the movie needs to be expanded into a sprawling mythology. Sometimes it’s okay for a good story to be just a good story, not an enormous, ever-expanding world.

This first volume of The Power of the Dark Crystal takes place 100 years after the events of the film, and to be honest, it’s disappointing that it seems to be the same story again, with slightly different characters. It also feels like this whole book is a long, long exposition that only just introduces some bigger ideas for the story.

Two thirds of the way through this series, and still not very much has happened. This volume becomes nearly slapstick in its constant progression of person holds crystal shard and runs away—person falls down—someone else picks up crystal shard and runs away, etc. etc. Instead of developing any of the big ideas, the story tells us quickly what the big ideas are, without building them naturally and really dealing with them.
