This was fine. It's a major pet peeve of mine for a book to keep referencing something over and over and not reveal it for hundreds of pages. Like WE GET IT. YOU ARE NOT TELLING US THE IDENTITY OF YOUR HUSBAND. And then I was really not into the weird transphobic-seeming way that the MC was trying to "detect" that the woman running the boarding house was possibly trans. And then I thought it was lazy writing for the Bad Guy to misgender her. Like, think of another way for him to be shitty. Also, the narration of the Latina character that the book said had a really heavy accent was just not at ALL the correct accent. If the author is going to throw in a Latina character, it feels natural to then ensure that your narrator can do the accent that you wrote? Everyone kind of sucked in this book. Probably won't read this author again.

Decent read, very fast paced and easy to get through. Knew the story it wanted to tell and did it in an engaging way. Great little quick thriller/mystery.

The plot twist at the end got me!

POSSIBLE SPOILERS SO DO NOT KEEP READING

A suspenseful domestic thriller that is so intricately intertwined you won’t know it until the very end. Multiple POV’s keeps you in the know, except there’s one POV you don’t realize you’ve been missing.

A woman plans her escape from her abusive husband.

Sabine is deemed missing after her husband returns home from a work trip, and she never arrives. Beth is on the run, covering her tracks because she knows her husband will kill her. Where is Sabine? Who is Beth? Are these women tied to each other?

Jeffery is the lead suspect in Sabine’s disappearance. Especially after texts confirm that he has previously abused her. To protect himself he reveals that in the past Sabine has ran away, and that perhaps this is an affect of her mental health.

Marcus, the lead detective takes this information and runs with it, because he’s all too familiar with this scenario.

When Sabine turns up dead in the river, you would think that would be the end, but you realize that the search never really was for Sabine…. Only one can be in control and this time Beth is ready.

The book was only ok in my opinion. The story is fun and I enjoyed the few different point of views. The plot twist was fun and somewhat unexpected. I enjoyed this. This book was perhaps too slow for me and, therefore, I did not feel pulled towards continuing it.
