Such a wonderful book! So full of adventure and magic and fantasy! It was very easy to get lost in it and keep reading. Reading books like these really make me realize I should read more of the genre (fantasy YA) because they’re SUCH a joy to read! I’m surely waiting for the next book in the series because I want more of Emily and her ultra-cool parents! I love it! It’s such a nice feeling to finish reading a really good book.

Join Emily on a quest to find her parents in a parallel world of magic and danger at the heart of London – The Midnight Hour brims with imagination and thrills 🌃!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐½
The Midnight Hour is a thrilling book. You never know what to expect and you’re eager to discover what new surprise awaits Emily in this strange enchanted world. It starts in Emily’s cosy home (complete with a feeding station for hedgehogs), then moves on to the incredible Night Post headquarters, and finally bursts into the parallel London, with supernatural beings and magic everywhere. There are some scary moments, like when Emily realizes her parents are gone and she’s left on her own! While a few elements felt clichéd, such as the ‘Bear’ villain she encounters and his chase scenes, on the whole the book shines with originality and builds an exciting alternative world.

Emily and her parents are very real as characters. I especially like the family dynamic between the brave and contrary Emily, her calm and composed father, and her odd and rebellious mother. Some characters are not as convincing, such as Tarkus (Emily’s new friend in the Midnight Hour), whose personality is hard to pin down and whose background is never fully explained.

One of the book’s strongest points is Emily’s truly distinct character and inner voice. Her thoughts and reactions to the sights and sounds of the Midnight Hour are entertaining and infuse such a sense of fun into the story. It’s so easy to read and think, yes, this exactly what Emily would say or do! She is not always likable: she can say hurtful things and fall into bad moods. On the other hand, I admire her bravery and ability to always say what’s on her mind. The authors have such a good grasp of her character that it helps make the world she travels in come alive as well.

The Midnight Hour is a great book for readers who would like to enter a magical Victorian London with a fiery heroine by their side and danger every step of the way.

Хумора беше безупречен - по нещо за детето и за мама или татко (или, в моя случай, 20-годишна жена, която избягва да завърши книжките за възрастни, които е оставила и затова се заравя в детските книги в библиотеката😎 I have no shame about it tho, u can’t persuade me it’s wrong of me)

Като цяло книгата е прекрасна за дете и абсолютно се виждам как я чета на детето си вечер и се пръскам от смях на някои неща, без обяснение за горкичкото дете. (Маняк.. имението на вампирите се казва Дънливин? Really? Very ba-dum-tss of you, mr. and mrs. Authors. Hats off to you eternally👏)

“Hi, it’s me, I’m the problem, it’s me” или както е там, не слушам Тейлър Суифт😆)

A fantastic start to what promises to be a brilliant new series. It does suffer a little, like an increasing number of books, from 'Hero has no idea what's going on and no one tells them' which can make a book hard to follow if it's all from the hero's point of view. But once Emily starts understanding what's happening, things pick up and it's non stop to the conclusion.

I hope this series runs for a long time. It deserves to, and there's plenty more stories of the Midnight Hour to be told.

I received a proof copy in exchange for an honest review.

She rocked there for a while, stiff with fright. What had just happened? Also, why was she starving? She added 'fear' to the long list of things that made her hungry, and tugged her bag open to root around for an emergency sandwich.
'OW!' She yanked her hand back out and sucked the end of her finger. Something sharp had stuck straight up under the nail. 'What the heck?' She peered in the bag, muffling a scream when something moved inside. There was a shuffling and a grunting noise, and then a small black nose appeared, follow by a brown, sleepy face.
'
Hog! What are you doing in there? You're very naughty."
She cupped her palm and his small-footed weight filled her hand with warmth. She held him up, grinning, and cooing over him. The old lady on the other side f the aisle was not as pleased. She got up and moved away, giving them both a filthy look. Who cared? Look what a nice nose her spiky stowaway had.
'Something very scary just happened, Hoggins. I'm glad you're here." The Hog did not respond, but wriggled with pleasure at the nose rub.
She squeezed him (not too tight) and he tucked in under her chin. The street lamps and headlights streamed by as the bus took them into the city.
'Wait, have you been eating my sandwiches, you little git?'
