Her first novel. An interesting read about a Nantucket exclusive hotel and beach club. I enjoyed the interesting and at times unpredictable characters. The aftermath of a hurricane was a little too sugar coated but a good rom-com kind of experience.

"Great read! If you are in the hotel business you can relate!"

Overall I enjoyed The Beach Club, but it wasn’t my favorite book by Elin Hilderbrand so far. I wanted to read this in preparation for The Hotel Nantucket coming out this June. Characters from this book and The Blue Bistro make appearances in the Hotel Nantucket so I wanted to be prepared.

I didn’t find the characters all that likeable and some of what happens throughout the story seems overdramatic for the plot of the story. Everyone takes such drastic measures all the time instead of thinking things through. I am looking forward to seeing where some of these characters end up when reading The Hotel Nantucket which is set in 2022.

The Beach Club By Hilderbrand_ Elin
Hotel on the island and many come to work there to find love and other things.
Quite the mix of people work and come to stay for a bit during the warm summer months to be waited on hand and foot.
So many to follow and all the drama of the island.
Interesting to learn of all the jobs the men have to do prior to the sun rising so guests will have everything ready when they wake up and want to hit the beach.
Lovers, some cheat on spouses, one looking for a man to father her child, others looking for huge tips so they go out of their way to please the guests.
Things go awry and people leave as the summer goes on-some run off to other countries, some bail on the bill, some leave to try new ventures and then a hurricane is forecast to hit-only a little bit, or will it hit them full on?
Surprise ending for all.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

Her first book so I have to judge on a different scale but woof this book is kind of a mess. Obviously love that this starts off her writing fixation on Nantucket and she has a great sense of place in her writing but there are so many characters and none of them feel remotely real or believable. There’s bizarrely a gun that never goes off—so Chekhov’s rule is wrong huh? There’s also some weird unintentional racist shit and domestic abuse that’s normalized. All the characters were just deeply odd and all their decisions felt nonsensical.

A fun summer drama set on Nantucket Island.
