I really liked this one. Yan Suizhi and Gu Yan had great personalities and their relationship was really fun to read. They kept using little snarky legal jokes in their arguments, entirely for silly reasons, and it was amazing.

My two favorites:
YSZ: *not eating his vegetables*
GY: I have audio evidence of you promising to eat your vegetables
YSZ: ....... *sulkily eats his vegetables*

GY: No eating in the office
YSZ: *boops GY with a strawberry* you touched it, so it would be rude for you not to eat it now
GY: ......... *eats the strawberry*
YSZ: now you're an accomplice
GY: ...

If I could rate this 6 stars I would.

I am currently experiencing conflicting emotions, I am sad at having to part with these characters, but I am also elated to have experienced the story and met the characters. Once again Mu Su Li leaves me with an extremely satisfying immersive experience. I felt it all, I cried, I laughed, I felt the distress, I felt the anger and I felt the joy expressed within these pages. Mu Su Li has a beautiful way of writing which evokes deep feelings in the reader.

Every character played a role be it minute or grandiose, every intricate detail that tied up to the big mystery at the end was just chef's kiss. The side characters did not just exist for the main characters, they had their own problems, their own personalities and were all so likeable. The main characters as always did not disappoint, from their banter, to the tiniest interaction between each other was sublime and enjoyable.
(The court scenes were too badass)

I could keep gushing about the beautiful writing and great characters or you could read it and find out just how amazing a book this is. I tried really hard to read this as slowly as possible a d yet the end came too soon. (Sob)

I have to offer praise to the translator for such wonderful work on this project.

Mu Su Li can do no wrong. This is my third novel by her (altough Nights shouldn't count because the translation was really... not the best) and I really love her characters and the way she really ties in every "loose end" in her plots... ppl saying "plot holes" in a Mu Su Li comment section clearly never finished reading the entire thing.

My only complaint is how fast and slightly anti-climatic her endings tend to be, but I still love them. Will re read. Mu su Li is a goddess and as stated in the beggining, she can do no wrong.

ps: This is a novel about lawyers but for some reason they spend more time in Spring Ivy Hospital than their law firm or even the court house......

next Mu Su Li novel in line: Copper Coins (While I wait for Noodesoup translation of Nights to take a little fly...)

What a book...

I started it when its translation was still ongoing and then put it on-hold to let the chapters pile up for me to binge read.

It had bit of almost everything I like and is almost a 5 star novel if not for some nitpickings I have abt the story. The end trial was certainly one of the best that I have read in novels (even tho this is set in a different reality with different laws and regulations)

Overall, an enjoyable read.
