I really loved this book. It was split up into two parts, the before and the after. The before was learning about Ash and Poppy and their whirlwind romance. We see ash’s family and friends and really come to love the personalities of these characters. The second part is after where we see loss and grief and love and acceptance. It’s a really lovely novel about love finding you in the afterlife and continuing beyond. Anyways this was so cute I loved it.

4.25/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
This was such a bittersweet story of first love and the lengths people are willing to go to for the people we love the most.
I loved this first love sapphic couple at the heart of this story. Ash and Poppy were made for each other. They are so freakin’ cute! Usually I’m yelling at the teenage couple to get over themselves but this just made me squeeze in delight. I want a love that is willing to conquer death itself in order to be together.
I thought the representation of different nationalities, religions, and LGBTQ+ characters was wonderful to see in YA fiction. Ash was a beautiful breath of fresh air and perceptive. Poppy does fall under the ‘manic pixie dream girl’ trope but it was cute to see it in this sapphic couple.
This was not an overly complicated story and does spends a lot time building up the relationship between the protagonists, then building the world of the Reapers, and finally brings in the complication. If I had any real complaints it would be the quick falling action and resolution of the story and lack of world building especially in its supernatural elements. I don’t mind the open ending, but it does reach its conclusion very quickly. However this is absolutely forgivable as I was completely investigated in Ash and Poppy’s love story.
I really enjoyed Tanya Burn’s novel and would love to check out some of her other works if they are this adorable. If you love sapphic couples, limited spice, first love, and spooky themes with a supernatural twist, then this is the novel for you.

Loved the concept and overall it's a good book. I loved all the ideas I just they got pushed further with a bit more depth, such as the relationship with poppy, with the family, with death. I wish there was just more to it.
