I love age gap books and this totally fit the bill. I was also excited that the MCs are older with Law being 65 and Curtis 35. Interestingly Law is the one with some insecurities because of an ex who dumped him for being “just a mechanic”.

I was a little overwhelmed by the worldbuilding - mostly the huge number of secondary & tertiary characters. They were all interesting people and for most their introduction would be of importance later. I’m guessing some are going to appear in future books and wish Carter had held off on introducing quite as many at once.

That said, I liked Curtis & Law as characters and as a couple. Their one night stand turned more was a great mix of sexy and fun. I loved their banter. Despite Law keeping his profession a secret - they were actually pretty open and honest with each other.

I would have loved an epilogue of some kind as this ends in an HFN. Hoping to see more of them in book 2, Hearts Redesigned. And to checking out more of Carter’s writing.

Enjoyed this book. Appropriately angst-y, mushy, romantic. Somewhat formulated but still very nice.

Overall, a decent story. The point of conflict throughout the book--at least on Law's part--really irked me. If the man was hung up on something that happened decades before to the extent that it was portrayed.. therapy sounds super needed. "But I'm just a mechanic" is a piss-poor excuse to be a grown-ass adult and fail to communicate. I mean, "quick, let's change my entire life so this person I insist is a casual hook-up NEVER KNOWS THE TRUTH!" is a pretty big red flag. I don't doubt that people have those hang ups. I just think in this case, it was over the top in a way that was beyond unhealthy and *that* should have been a concern, not that he just needed a stern talking to from his friends and family. Anyway, yeah. I have some feelings about that.

Curtis had to learn to trust after Jeffrey hurt him.  Jeffrey specialized in hurting people, bullying everyone around him.

Many characters were realted to others in the book through family or school, before meeting up again here.

Pacing struggles

This was originally a much shorter novella, and I could feel the expansion in the pacing that struggled to hold my interest at times. I liked the story and the characters, but I just felt like it was missing something. I ended up satisfied, but I think I would have enjoyed it more as a shorter novella.

This was a good story. Lawrence and Curtis get along so well even when Lawrence is trying to deny it. They have both been hurt in the past but it takes more for Lawrence to accept that the person he loves will love him for him. There are a lot of coincidence connections in this story that just felt a little too coincidental. I felt for both of these guys as they tried to navigate the others feelings and their own while also making some big changes in their lives.

I received a copy of this book and am giving an honest review
