beautiful story if you don’t think too much into it

Realistic, poignant and emotional, All This Time by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott tells a story about a boy who got into an accident with his ex-girlfriend and wakes up to find her dead.

Summary: After graduating from high school, Kyle Lafferty gets involved in a car accident with his now ex-girlfriend Kimberly. He wakes up to find that she has passed away and struggles with survivor's guilt. At the cemetery, he meets Marley, a girl who's experiencing a similar pain.

Review: This book started out so good and descriptive. I was honestly so impressed by the writing. The pacing was great and all until the major turning point (the plot twist) that occurred halfway through the book. Afterwards, Kyle and Marley's chemistry dwindled a lot, and the ending felt so rushed.

This is probably the first time I've read a romance book written entirely from a guy's perspective excluding gay romance books. This book can be distinctly separated into three parts: before the accident, after the accident, and after the plot twist. The first two parts (basically everything before the plot twist) were very well written, with all the descriptions and raw emotions surrounding Kyle's experience with the abrupt breakup on his graduation day and survivor's guilt after Kim died in the accident that occurred while he was behind the wheel. However, the last part definitely has room for improvement.

Kyle displayed so much raw emotion. It tugged at my heartstrings. Nobody deserves to go through all that. I admire the character growth he had throughout the story. He learned who he was without Kimberly! He's such a hopeless romantic, and I enjoyed following his perspective throughout the story. It's interesting to read how he processed the entire situation.

Marley is such an interesting character. I spent most of the first half of the story wondering if she was a hallucination. After all, Kyle kept hallucinating Kim, so maybe Marley was also a hallucination he conjured up to help himself cope with his loss and guilt. It makes sense considering Marley was going through something so similar to Kyle! I think it really takes a lot of writing skills to be able to make readers doubt the existence of a character like that. Anyway, I liked how the authors handled her emotional development regarding the death of her twin when they were fourteen, except for everything that happened towards the end.

I would also like to give a shout-out to Kyle, Kim and Sam's friendship. I think it's very wholesome. They truly care about each other so much. I was a bit sceptical about Kim and Sam earlier, but I like how mature the three of them are at approaching their friendship and personal relationships. It's so sweet!

There's one thing in this book that I find so interesting and want to talk about badly, but I don't want to put any spoilers in this review. Okay, you know what? Let's just do it. I'll put it at the end of the entire review. You have been warned! Don't read it if you don't want any spoilers! It's related to the plot twist!

All in all, this is a very interesting book filled with a load of emotions. I think the authors really expressed the themes in this story very well. The only issue is the over-the-top and melodramatic vibe of the latter part of the book, which includes the rushed ending. Otherwise, the rest of the book is very good!

[SPOILER ALERT (putting it after the entire review so that the flow won't be disrupted)]

Those who have read this book will know that everything between the accident and the plot twist was a dream Kyle had while he was in a coma, which was constructed through the stories Marley told him while he was unconscious. Anyway, I find it so interesting how everything he hears from Kim (whom he sees as a hallucination in his dream) and Sam were probably things they said while he was in a coma, which is why a lot of the things Kyle learned in his dream were real. I also find it interesting how much he had grown emotionally during the eight-week coma. The entire coma concept was so well explained, and I really have to applaud that. The plot twist and the way it was explained are so well done, and I love how well it was integrated into the story. It's usually a bad idea to make a whole experience in a story a dream, but the authors somehow managed to pull it off. Awesome!

Anyway, yes, this is a good book. I just found the ending very rushed. When Kyle and Marley met again after he woke up from the coma, it felt weird. Marley still blamed herself for her sister's death, and she has not spoken to anyone in years. It seemed weird that she suddenly became okay with moving on from Laura's death after Kyle spoke to her. How Kyle managed to converse with her in their so-called dream world while she was unconscious in the hospital is another weird thing. The sudden unrealistic plot point among the sea of realistic ones is a bit jarring. Additionally, romantic love doesn't fix guilt. It doesn't feel right for Marley to be okay just because she and Kyle love each other. Long story short, it's a nice and emotional story with an interesting concept, but the ending was rushed.

This would've been an easy 5-star if it weren't for the poorly-handled ending.

Start was slow but the end made up for it
I should have known it was a comer when Sam mentioned the lamp. Not the reddit refrence
the end was an emotional roller coaster

Kyle and Kimberly are the perfect high school couple. Quarterback and cheerleader. If that doesn't scream cliche I don't know what does. Then Kimberly decides she doesn't want to be with Kyle and breaks up with him on the night of their graduation party. To make matters worse, they get in a car accident right after she breaks the news. Kyle wakes up in a hospital only to find out that Kimberly is dead. He meets a girl named Marley and his life changes and perspective.

Characters
>Kyle- he was pretty basic. At least at the beginning. Kyle grows to be his character and I enjoyed that he grew out of that standard ideal he built for himself. One thing I love about his character is that he loved whole-heartedly.

>Marley- I loved Marley. She was a perfect friend for Kyle. Through her trauma, she could relate to Kyle and that's what I enjoyed. Through their relationship we see Kyle grow into a different person. I want a friend like Marley.

----------------------------------------

This plot was by far one of the best plots I have ever read. The plot twist was HUGE. I never expected such a plot twist. But I will wait until the spoilers to give that away. The plot begins when Marley and Kyle meet for the first time. Kyle for the first 1/8 of this book is moping around because Kimberly is gone and he doesn't know what to do with himself. then he decides to carry on with his life and meets Marley. Marley, although she's in her sorrow gives hope to Kyle.

The writing is beautiful. This is the kind of writing I really can feel the emotion. I can rarely find books that give me some sort of raw emotion, especially coming from a male's perspective. The climax had me on the edge of my seat wanting more.

Overall, I loved this book. I could feel the emotions pouring out from every page and I could feel how relatable the characters were..
And the cover is beautiful. I love these covers.
