I am an huge fan of Taylor Swift, especially
The Lakes - Original version (I have an unhealthy amount of plays.). And I felt like I had to read poetry by William Wordsworth since he is referenced in the song.

Previously I have only read one ”older” poetry collection which was Emily Dickinson.
I think I liked the structure of this more and had an easier time understanding Wordsworth’s poems compared to Dickinson’s. However, Wordsworth’s writing took longer for me to get used to.

Overall I loved it and I really want to read more poetry and classics in the future.

Lyrical ballads is a classic and it had an undeniable impact on Poetry and English as we know it. However, some of the poems in this volume are significantly better than others. It is an important piece canon, but there are much much
better Pastoral and lyric out there. However, if you haven’t read the Rhyme of the ancient mariner, what are you doing with your life? Do that right now.

ROMANTICISM. Very Tasteful
medium-paced

Mixed feelings about this well-known book. Lyrical Ballads, originally published in 1798, is still regarded as the clarion call of the British Romantic movement. And I understand why: the evocation of natural beauty, sometimes in an inspired-spiritual form, speaks volumes. This collection contains numerous compelling examples of this. But this work offers much more, in very different directions. I had the impression that Coleridge's – limited – contributions emphasized a more gothic aspect. And that Wordsworth's poems are much more appealing, fresher in form as well. I also read the preface (by Wordsworth) to the 1800 edition, which does discuss formal aspects in great detail (the text is truly dense): a departure from earlier strict formal requirements and a greater connection to everyday language. Much of this is recognizable in the poems, often with a refreshing effect. But in some cases, Wordsworth lapses into very simplistic language, into childish-sounding stories. So not everything still appeals more than two centuries later, and that is logical.

Read for the first time in college and reread this year because I'm teaching Rime of the Ancient Mariner so why not reread the whole book? I just love William Wordsworth and I would like to personally invite any Wordsworth haters to fuck off because I'm right and he's great. This book is so good and so interesting and I love it!!! (Also Coleridge gets points too for signing up for a group project and doing like one part of it and the whole class remembers his work because he did the part about the zombie sailors- which to be clear, did slap- and his partner who did the entire rest of the project is like "Does nobody care about Tintern Abbey?" I care about Tintern Abbey, Wordsworth. I care.)
