I deeply enjoyed this book. It was such an eye opening read to how women have and continue to be dominated under the patriarchy.

I will say this book was a struggle for me in two spots. One the book is deeply emotional, especially as a woman, because you see how many girls and women have had they live cut simply because of their gender. It breaks my heart to know that women have been under the heel of men for so long. That so many women have been killed or forced to live less of a live because of their gender. There were plenty of places in the book where I found myself becoming depressed and had to stop reading.

The second place I struggled was the fact that the book sort of because repetitive at the end. While I did enjoy learning about what women went through reading pages upon pages about how women have been forced to give up so many things because of who they are started to make me lag through the book.

Overall I think anyone should take the time to at least listen to the audiobook if not read it as well.

Despite what the author may claim in the foreword, this book is a "history" of White Feminism and American propaganda. In other words, it's surface level and racist as hell.

Despite the language of their oppression being co-opted at every opportunity, BIPOC are rarely mentioned throughout the book. When BIPOC are mentioned, it is to serve one of two purposes, depending on their gender:
- Non-white men, of course, are the most violent of oppressors
- Non-white women show up as voices of wisdom to support whatever actions the white femme is taking at that moment.

The "history" isn't well researched either. Off the top of my head, I recall a whole bit about chastity belts, the use of which has been debunked. Of course, as a particularly cruel "invention," their creation was attributed to MENA men.

To sum up, if you say things like, "We are the daughters of the witches you didn't burn," or still wear your pussy hat with pride, you'll like this book. For everybody else, skip it.

Informative, but I found myself getting lost in the quick switches between stories and anecdotes. The preface was awful and should be removed. It didn't reflect well on the rest of the book.

this book was okay. I feel like I learned the most/was most interested in the neolithic history section. the while book could have been a lot more intersectional (though i get that it's an old book, maybe a modern release would be more interesting). being a women's history, I would have thought that it would have had much more insight into the daily lives, traditions, and communities of women over time. instead it was mostly a record of women's oppression.
