What a horrible book. Very unnecessarily dictatorial. Like stating that the only acceptable nail polish colours are red, pink, clear, nude and French manicure. This is for people with no imagination or personality. Should be titled "How to Be a Basic B!tch". All its missing is a paragraph on how the only acceptable drink at Starbucks (you wouldn't want to be caught at an independent shop!) is a flat white or a pumpkin spice latte. (Actually, it might have that chapter; I abandoned it before I got there.)
A few bits of good advise about home pedicures etc, but you can get that elsewhere.

A cute "guide to life." This book contains the rules of etiquette and several useful how-to's for the modern lady, of course including a few paragraphs on how to walk in high heels.
Some aspects in this books are very helpful, but some other part sounds very very expensive and snobby.
Reading this in 2021, in mid 20's, really amde me realize how we grew. Many parts of this book were ridiculous. How to turn your PC on, and what is a plug?
Some parts were indeed intresting : as how to play poker, the history of tea and computer was also intresting, and politics.
This book is mainy focused on UK. So all the recommended shops or tips will be only for those who live in UK.
At some point it was funny
At some point it was denigrating women's way of dressing or body shapes. There where indeed many disturbing parts.
I am not sure if I would recommended this as a whole book. But I will reread some parts that i enjoyed.

I don't like books that tell me what to do or how to be female but this one taught me a lot about how often house stuff needs to get cleaned I guess.
This is the only book I could not finish. The information was for adults but the book was written in such a teenage way. I skipped some parts of it because I already know how to do those things. This book was also written over 10 years ago, so the technology section was slightly outdated. By the end of what I read, it seemed as though the writer was running out of ideas on what information to give and it was all extremely random.
I think this book is designed for adults but it's written as if it was for middle school aged children. There are some tips in here that are useful and then there are some that are just, I don't know the word I'm looking for but, I guess childish or immature? Like creating the right atmosphere to get ready in - I mean there is no real value to some of the tips listed in here. This was one book that I didn't finish - mainly because it doesn't have a story line.
I was aware of this book for many years, and finally picked it up in a charity shop to read from cover to cover. The basic premise is a practical, yet stylish guide to life for young women, covering things like how to be an art lover, how to understand politics, etc.
The author who is known for working at vogue, and now a columnist in many publications quite rightly showed some flare with her writing. I genuinely found it entertaining and very informative on a range of topics.

I skipped some parts of the book, because those were not really my thing. Also, I basically skipped the whole part about electronics, because this book is so old and I know how a computer should be turned on.
The parts I did read where really enjoyable. It is written with humor and there were lots of funny parts.

i read this when i was in year six and i took a lot of it to heart and it MESSED up my perception of the world and the level of perfection i needed to achieve. obviously under other circumstances i may have liked this better as an over-dramatic, almost satirical self help guide?? but i feel like that's not even what the author was going for, and she genuinely believes women should follow some of this stuff and act like this, which i find so gross. 1.25 for the occasional good tip but other than that, i wouldn't pick this up.
