This is not my usual read, but I read it to fulfill a Popsugar prompt, "book that takes place over 24 hours" and I am completing the challenge entirely with authors of color. Not surprisingly there weren't very many options.

I enjoyed this book for the rather dark concept because I love depressing things, but didn't fully love it. I liked the overall message of not wasting time and live as if it was your last day. But I think I lacked emotional connection except for a few moments scattered here and there. I am not sure why it didn't completely hit the mark for me. Maybe it was because halfway through I realized these death predictions weren't something like a designed death (a la Scythe) just a 'hey btw' that the person would randomly die somehow that day. I think since I love the Scythe series so much, this wasn't even close to comparing, so I was left unsatisfied.

The characters start off unlikable. (Andrea does not help this impression. She knows what she did.) But grow into who they'd be if they had more time, and it's bittersweet to see that glimpse of their adult selves.

Adam Silvera... HOW DARE YOU?! This is the kind of book that makes your heart softer, lighter... and then in the next minute breaks it in the cruellest way possible. I loved it and I'm literally screaming in silence... Mateo and Rufus' love is the kind of stories that remind you how beautiful humanity and connections with other people can be. I loved the Queer and people of color represented in this story, never got the chance to read anything like that in an United States context. I just... love it with all my heart right now! The only thing I would point out is the pace of the book. I felt like the beginning was not really easy to get through, I think it could've been shorter and would've made the book easier to read as a whole work. Otherwise, I find the book a very good reading for anyone looking for some teenage drama with a little taste of difficult topics like your last day, queer love, inmortality and living your life with hope and freedom.
