This was aggravatingly hard to read. Like, the words were almost perfectly formulated not to be read or retained in your brain.

A fantastic book on the topic of separation of church and state. The book basis the majority of it's examination of the issues on concepts originally put forth by John Locke and John Stuart Mill, as well as existing case law in several countries. The issues covered include:

  • A Short History of Religious Intolerance

  • Hobbes, Locke, and their Legacy: Models of the Modern State

  • Religious Impositions and Endorsements

  • Religion-Based Morality and the Secular State

  • Persecution, Accommodation, and Conscientious Objection

  • Private Power, Religious Communities, and the State

  • Religious Freedom and the Interests of Children

  • Religious Freedom and Freedom of Speech

I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in this subject matter or who is concerned about the theocratic leanings of some modern political establishments.
