Ehhhhhhhh I’m not that intrigued by this series and I had high hopes too which makes it worse. I’m sorry but I do not care for Freya, she felt very surface level. The romance also felt a little sped up and forced.

I liked the magic system but found the ending more predictable than I’d hoped which is why it’s a 3 and not a 4 for me. Overall wasn’t bad, but didn’t love.

I re-read this in preparation for my read of book 2 ...

I listened to the audio while following along in my physical copy ...

I have to say that I was truly enjoying re-reading the initial plot with Bjorn and Freya.

I do have to admit that my feelings on Freya did not change so much, but I did enjoy being back in this world.

When continuing a series I always feel like I miss key information when jumping back in, but that was not the case here. So I am beyond confident that I would be able to follow along book 2 just fine.

This was a buddy read ...

I was honestly loving the majority of this, because I was finding it to be a lot different from the other books I have read with similar plots.

I do have to admit that I found Freya to be a bit childish at times, but I was letting it pass because I was loving the plot so much.

Bjorn was an awesome shadow zaddy in this one ... and yes, he had his flaws but was still invested.

I was giving this book 5⭐️ until like the last 10-15% ...

And I say that because I thought the ending was going to be something different from every other book similar in nature ... I feel like the ending had many ways to go, and the author chose the most cliché one possible. *MY OPINION

I do want to read the next one, in hopes it gets better, and to see what happens next with the MCs.

Oh my god. Painful.

- Feyre/Rhys FMC/MC copycats? ✅
- Side characters who had 5000% more depth than the protags? ✅
- Naive, selfless, altruistic, impossibly beautiful SMOL FMC who has a “sharp tongue” and can fight like a Viking despite being described as scrawny? ✅
- cool lore and world building that is just glossed over for the sake of romance? ✅
- blatant misleading and red herrings because the author thinks we are dumb? ✅

I’m so done
