Dead spouse can work just it didn't here. I didn't care about Marie in previous books and can't say this book changed my opinion, also romance here is so flat. What I liked the most here are Calla and Jonah crumbs and setting. Overall I'm glad Wild series is continuing hopefully we will get Reed and Mabel book.

I really wanted to love this. I so badly wanted Marie to have a magical, all-consuming love, but this was not it for me.
I loved the setting, though. This author can absolutely do the Alaskan wilderness like nobody else. I also loved the fact Marie was a vet- all the stories and fur babies made me smile. And, of course, I absolutely loved catching up with everyone the most. I loved Calla and Jonah’s story, so it was wonderful to get updates on them as well as Agnes, Mable, Toby, and (of course) my precious Roy.
So, yeah, I really did love everything… except the romance. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Maybe I set the bar too high for Marie, but she fucking deserved it.
That being said, I would probably read another book in this world. And another and another and another…

I love these books so much - they’re the definition of chaotic good.
