The character development is just so good. I felt so completely drawn into the storyline and into the lives of those included.
Similar to the first book, I’d say the last 25-30% of this book has the height of action, though I didn’t feel as the first 65-70% ever really dragged on. It was quite captivating, IMO.
Very excited to read the last book!

the character development was great in this one. we got to see a lot more of muntadhir, who's a very interesting character. one moment you hate him and the other you want him to be happy and safe.
alizayd as well, i loved to see him humbled and bring himself back up. he's probably my favourite character.
and nahri is awesome as always.
this is one of the best fantasy series I've read, and the politics is so well written. I usually prefer characters over plot, but the author does the plot so good you get very invested in it. there is no good side or bad side, everyone has done questionable things so you're kind of rooting for both but neither at the same time.

Every. Single. Character. Is so deeply selfish and unlikeable. And the level of violence against children, the sheer number of children dying, borders on trauma porn.
Half the characters' choices make no sense or have any consistency from page to page.
I already bought the third book, such was my excitement, so I'll read it and hope this installment was just an unfortunate misstep.

Thank you, Chakraborty, for keeping me on my toes throughout this book and introducing me to some truly captivating mythology. I’m not done with the series yet, but I can already tell how heartbroken I’ll be to leave the breathtaking world of Daevabad.
