Interior Chinatown is clever in its construction and generous in its storytelling. Funny, tender, and visually vivid, it reads like a screenplay for a life lived just off to the side of the main stage. Charles Yu pulls you in with humor, but leaves you teary-eyed and thinking about identity, performance, and belonging. It’s sharp and heady without being smug. An easy read in pace, but rich in layers. I finished it in a few days and felt better for it.

I loved the premise and TV show script structure because it brought a new and interesting perspective to well-worn themes of immigration, assimilation, representation, and identity.
