Newlyweds Titus and Melanie Bell are driving to their honeymoon destination in the Okefenokee Swamp for a canoe trip. They pass over six bridges before encountering a seventh which is different from the others; very old, built of stone, very narrow, and there is something very strange about it. As they cross, Titus loses consciousness and when he awakens less than 30 minutes later, he is lay on the road and Melanie has disappeared. Titus looks for her in vain and rings the police, but when they arrive they tell him there are only six bridges on that road.

Who would not be intrigued by a premise like that? I was looking forward to reading it, and although it showed flashes of occasional promise, it was a bit of a letdown. The other characters involved in the story, Miss Daisy, Miss Claire, Cameron, Jess, and Dave, were kind of peripheral and although there were chapters written from their points of view, they still felt very sketchily drawn to me. I expected it to be a much darker story than it turned out to be and I was left feeling a bit dissatisfied with the book. I can only rate this 2.5 stars.
