On paper this seems like a plot I would love. Sadly, I never got into Clara's story. Instead I found myself racing to the life and death chapters and the thoughts on philosophy. Certain readers will probably love this hot, mysterious world but I was only there for the game idea.

I can't decide whether or not I like this book. I enjoyed it but I couldn't savor it. I respect the way it ends - its dark but children are sometimes dark so if they choose this who am I to judge. A good middle grade intro to magical realism. Would recommend for those who have enjoyed or will enjoy Silvia Moreno Garcia.
