This book give massive looking for Alaska vibes which was a big throwback for me. I didn’t really like Chloe very much. I just felt like she was a bit annoying and the whole “valedictorian” motive was kinda cringe. Some of the lines about pop culture things such as TikTok etc gave me the ick a little bit. I really loved smith. I think out of all the characters he was my favourite and it was a nice little plot twist that he ended up with
Rory. I think my favourite thing about this book was how much it delved into being queer and going to a catholic school. I found it very amusing that most of the main characters ended up in some sort of queer relationship at the end. By the end of it I was routing for Shara and Chloe to end up together (mostly because I was slightly worried that there wasn’t going to be any Wlw content) but alas, there was so in the end I was happy.

I'm downvoting because I'm not wholly sold on the central romance by the end, but my takeaway is that the book isn't actually about the romance, but really about Chloe finally looking past the stereotype of the conservative South to see what her peers have been living all along, without her licensing and approval. I love Chloe's POV and think she's hilarious, but you can tell that the author really empathizes more with the other students, learning to be themself without judgment.

DNF 82% (But skimmed throught each page until the end to see what was going to happen)
If I'm being honest, I've got mixed feelings about this book. However I disliked it more than I did like it.

The parts of the book that are actually enjoyable are when Shara isn't mentionned.
I'd even say that It'd be better if the book was just about queer kids finding themselves, breaking Social barriers and religious trauma and if Shara simply did not exist in it at all.

Initially, I thought I'd like it. The scenario seemed good and, as a PLL fan, I was very excited about the whole hunting game, finding a girl who disappeared but only let some letters behind her, thing.
However the execution was very poor and the way it was brought up extremely unrealistic.

Chloe, the MC and POV, is supposed to dislike Shara and isn't remotely close to her, but she is the first one to break into her house after she disappeared for one night only to find her, and throughout the whole book, the Shara situation put in light the worst of her personality.
Chloe is a girl who is self-centered, looks down upon Popular kids just because they are popular and think she's better than anyone else.

I kept asking myself why was she still trying to find Shara and her reasons made her even less likeable. Unlike Smith and Rory that had some kind of emotional connection to her, Chloe makes her hatred toward Shara crystal clear and her sole motivation is proving that Shara is a bad person, and beat her at her own game.

But she's so obsessed with this girl that finding out Shara's wrong doings makes it more interesting for her, she let her own friends behind, and becomes herself mean.

The redemption arc is the part that annoyed me the most and I couldn't even finish it.
Shara doesn't suffer from any consequences of her actions. This whole, "yes she did bad things but at the end it worked out for me so I'm not gonna dislike her" made me honestly sick. I liked Rory and Smith at the beginning, but this part made me dislike them too.
Nobody seems to care that Shara is a bad person and Chloe's own best friend even tells her that Shara is hot so she should date her anyway.
