Originally read for the scholarship relevant to Zhang Ailing, but quickly discovered that everything in here is pretty fascinating. Highly recommended.

This review is coming from a student of Japanese language who wanted a crash course in culture and history. I found this book to pack in a lot of information while still being a fairly easy read! The later sections lost me; I think those would be better suited for those who have delved into literature a bit more.
I definitely am going to read on for the other sections!
