Law student Chloe Larson is savagely attacked in her own bedroom, her assailant wore a mask & no physical evidence was found & he was never caught. Twelve years later, now known as CJ, she works for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's office & specialises in difficult cases. The latest is the killer known as Cupid, who kidnaps, rapes & tortures his victims, before removing their hearts & he has killed 10 women so far with the eleventh currently missing. A routine stop yields a surprising result when the killer, William Bantling, is caught red-handed with a body in his car boot, but when CJ attends the first hearing, she is horrified to realise that he is the man who attacked her 12 years ago. At first it doesn't seem as if he has recognised her, but when the initial stop's validity is questioned & it seems like Bantling may get away on a technicality, CJ is not about to let the man guilty of the attack on her go free.

I've had this on my TBR shelf for years but never got around to reading it. I wasn't missing a lot: cliché, overly sexualising towards female characters, a very obvious (to me) twist, & a corny romance between CJ & another character. There's also no reason it was dragged out for over 500 pages, 350-400 would have helped the pacing, but I did find myself becoming engrossed in the plot for the final third of the book.
